There’s lots of action on Iraq today. The Democratic leadership capitulated to Bush on withdrawing from Iraq. And a bird dropped a dooce on Bush during his press conference. The video is Bush trying to wipe it off, with no success.

It’s supposed to be good luck when a bird poops on you. Today was Bush’s lucky day. Unpopular as ever, with a majority of the public looking to leave Iraq, Bush won $120 billion for a few more months of His War. The House just passed the spending bill that has no benchmarks, no time table, and no other way of determining success.

There are a number of Democrats who are doing the right thing and voting against any bill without a time table to withdraw, including Chris Dodd, Nancy Pelosi, and John Kerry. But Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama>, and* a number of other Democrats are joining with the Republican majority to give Bush a blank check for the summer.

I understand why John Edwards can be more honest and stridently oppose the war, but this will definitely come back and bite both Obama and Clinton. The Democratic party is looking for someone who will stand up and do what’s right, and this is definitely a strike against candidate who doesn’t understand that.

*Edit – Keith Olbermann confirmed that Obama and Hillary voted no. Good.

**Update II: Holy crap. The Senate voted 80-14 for the spending bill. That is shameful.
